Why the Digg this button is on the social media press release template

July 14, 2006 by Sally Falkow

Social media influence is important for PR

In his article in Online Spin about digg.com Max Kalehoff of Nielsen Buzzmetrics says

If I were an online publisher, or a PR person, I’d be spending a lot of time studying how this idea catalyst works and can be leveraged. Digg may not be in the top-10 rankings of all publisher sites, but it can act as a forceful fire hose of content to high-reaching mainstream channels. Similar to many influential blogs and online communities, Digg is becoming an intermediary to traditional information gatekeepers.

For a good many PR folk their eyes glaze over when they look at the social media press release template. Getting these elements onto your newsroom web page is a challenge, let alone figuring out how to make a purpose-built del.icio.us page, create RSS Feeds or understand how digg.com works.

But Max is right.  It is worth your while. PR people must wrap their wits around this stuff.

If you want help implementing these new PR ideas we will be talking about them at Search Engine Strategies on August 8th and holding a one-day workshop when we come back. ( August 23rd.)

Stop by the PRESSfeed booth in the exhibit hall – opposite the food vendors – and see how easy it can be to get your news into this format, up on your website and create an RSS feed.
