User- generated content providers named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year

If you needed any more convincing that social media is influencing the news, this should do it.
You don’t get any more mainstream than the cover of Time as Person of the Year.
And if user-generated content and social networking is the one element that most influenced the news in 2006, I’d hazard a guess that it will become the one element that gets PR practitioners’ attention in 2007.
And so it should.
The clues have been all over the place in 2006. Mainstream media circulation and readershp is down across the boards.
Online news is growing exponentially. Yahoo News has the biggest news audience in the world.
The game has changed: your press releases need to show up in Yahoo News and they have to be written so they get a high ranking on your keywords.
While most women’s print magazines watch their readership falling, sites like Bella Online are growing. Even a relatively new site like Diva Village now gets 1.5 million visitors each month.
How will you make the most of this trend?
