Social Media Reading April 30 2010

May 1, 2010 by Sally Falkow

NewsAlmost everyday I meet someone who asks me,  “How do I keep up with the new ideas in social media?”  The other question I get very often is, “How do I figure out how a new idea relates to my work in PR?”

Since the puprose of PRoactive is to assist PR practitioners to identify new trends and technologies, and stay abreast of these new ideas that affect the practice of PR, I’m going to publish a list of articles I think are useful for PR folk each week.

Here is the first one.

5 tools you can use to schedule Tweets

The point of Twitter is that it is real-time.  But not every tweet has to donein real-time,  Busy PR people can use toolslike these to queue up tweets and have them posted at the best time.  If you do some analytics on your tweeting you will soon dicover what itme of day you get the best results.   For instance mine is between 11 and 2 pm pacific.  So if I have to be away form my computer at that itme, I can schedule my tweets earlier and have them posted in that window.

Three Use Cases for Social CRM

Alhtough this article is titled “for social CRM”, the ideas apply equally to PR.  Allen Bonde has good ideas on how to use Tiwtter to inform, listen adn engage. Using Twitter as an alert channel for reaching, educating and informing customers can be incredibly effective and efficient, says Bonde and he makes the point that Twitter is increasingly a powerful discussion starter.

Twitter: More a News Medium Than Social Network

Korean researchers analyzed how people use the service and found that it more closely resembles a traditional news media outlet than a social network.  Their mathematical analysis shows how people share information differently on Twitter than they do on other networking sites.

Facebook Plans to Suggest Pages to Users

Facebook recenty changed the “become a fan” to simply “Like.” Now they plan to suggest these brand pages to their users and when someone clicks on a “Like” button, Facebook adds that Page in the contextually relevant section of their profile “Info” section.
