The use of Big Data in the PR sphere is a topic that’s getting a lot of attention. The TechnoVision Report is an excellent example of the value of Big Data for PR. This new report shows relative 2014 media coverage for ten top business-to-business (B2B) tech brands – Amazon, Cisco, Dell, EMC, Google, HP, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, and Oracle.

TechnoVision is built using PRSourceCode’s Ocular8 – a new tech media insight service.  The cool factor in this report is that it is interactive and you can drill down three layers.

The third layer of data in the report is information on how the overall media coverage, and coverage by big-five topic area, was distributed across 10 top tech trade publications – CIO, ComputerWorld, eWeek, InformationWeek, InfoWorld, Network World, PC Magazine, TMCNet, Wired, ZDNet. By mousing over the histograms you can also see the sentiment and tone of the article.

Hot Topics

Cloud dominates the tech coverage in the top 10 tech titles – 59 percent of all big-five tech coverage focuses on cloud. Together, Microsoft and Google dominate news coverage around the big-five topics.

Why I Like This Technology

It’s not a database of media sources, reporters and beats that could be out of date within months, due to the ever-changing media newsroom staffing issues. PRSourceCode’s Ocular8 is a real-time, tech-focused media insight service. You can see who is writing what, where, and when. Now that’s a smart way to monitor news and improve your earned media coverage.

Powered by Ocular8, a media analysis and tracking service, TechnoVision’s chart covers the first six months of 2014. To view the full report, visit: www.Ocular8.com/technovision.
