Top-tier social meida sites can be a remarkable source of traffic

Search executives  regard social networks as a  powerful channel that can improve brand awareness and create buzz, when used correctly, 

“While social search certainly is in its infancy, the top-tier sites can be a remarkable source of traffic, in many cases bringing the server of unprepared sites to its knees,” said Andrew Barnett, manager of organic search and emerging technologies for Outrider, St. Louis. ( DM News)

To make the most of soical networks you need to gain an understanding of the content that interests consumers, then creatively fill that void, said Barnett.

One company that has used this strategy succesfully is Skin MD Natural. They add one new article about skin care for dry skin and eczema to their website each week.  Every article is tagged and ofers easy ways to share the content with others on sites like del.icio.us digg and newsvine.

Web content syndication  combined with social media elements has pushed their site onto page one in Google and has definitely raised brand awareness in the public and the media.
